Nathan Freke totally dominated
the first National Championship title to be awarded in 2003. The UK Cup /
'O' Plate meeting at Cadwell Park was held in near perfect conditions. Driving
his F1 / Pavesi D97 outfit without any Saturday practice Nathan put in a faultless
performance in timed practice to gain pole position for the first race. An
excellent start saw an easy stroll to victroy as his main competitors broke
down or fell off leaving victory by half a lap. Race 2 looked to be going
the same way until the halfway point when a jumping chain caused the kart
to be very slow out of the hairpin, allowing the chasing pack to close up
by the chequered flag. On pole for the last race for the UK Cup, with a changed
chain and a brilliant start saw an excellent race with the kart of Lee Harpham.
Nathan driving well and smashing the lap record on the way held off Harpham
at the flag to record his 3rd National Superkart title in 3 years. The youngest
driver to hold both the Grand Prix and 'O' Plate titles at the same time.
